A heavily camouflaged test mule of Suzuki’s upcoming quarter-litre sportbike has been spotted undergoing trials in Indonesia. Rumoured to be christened GSX-R250 for global markets and Gixxer 250 for India, the motorcycle bears a striking resemblance to Suzuki’s patent images which were recently leaked by an Australian website.
This new Suzuki borrows major styling cues from the next-gen GSX-R1000, quite unlike the Gixxer SF. Featuring a majorly revamped design language with an aerodynamic full-fairing, this bike is expected to be underpinned by a single downtube frame with the engine as a stressed member, similar to the one in the Gixxer. We expect it to employ a single-cylinder powertrain, with the engine breathing out through a single exhaust canister with twin outlets. It gets conventional telescopic forks at the front and a monoshock in the rear.
We can expect the Suzuki Gixxer 250 to make its global debut before the end of this year. Taking into account the success of the Suzuki Gixxer and the growth rate of the entry-level sportbike segment in India, we can safely assume this motorcycle to make its way to India very soon after its international unveiling. It will rival the likes of KTM RC200 and the Honda CBR250R.
