The Gixxer has changed the game for Suzuki Motorcycles India. Suzuki has said that the overall sales and good performance of the award winning motorcycle makes it their main offering. Now, Suzuki Motorcycles India are working on a more powerful 250cc Gixxer.
Kenji Hirozawa, Vice President, Suzuki Motorcycles India said, "We are looking at bringing in a more premium, India-specific motorcycle based on the Gixxer which will be between 150cc and 250cc."
The Gixxer 250 will likely feature an all-new air-cooled 250cc engine with an output of around 25bhp and a six-speed transmission. The motorcycle will also have disc brakes front and rear and could come equipped with ABS. The Gixxer will feature telescopic forks in the front and a single-shock suspension with aluminium swing-arm at the rear, similar to its smaller sibling.
The Gixxer 150 was launched in India in September 2014 and has been one of the best performers for Suzuki Motorcycles India. In the period between April 2015 and February 2016, Gixxer sold nearly 76,766 units in the domestic market and exported over 36,000 units. The Gixxer 150 has helped Suzuki's exports jump more than 100 per cent.
10 years after Suzuki Motorcycles reentered India, the Japanese company is expected to turn profitable for the first time this year, thanks to the substantial sales of the Gixxer.
