Suzuki launched the new 155cc motorcycle, Gixxer, for the Indian market today. The company also launched the motorcycle in Kathmandu, Nepal at a price of Rs 2,29,000 through VG Automobiles, the authorised distributor of Suzuki Motorcycles for Nepal.
The naked motorcycle is beautifully styled mainly targeting the youth. The bike has been designed by the engineers who have designed the legendary GSXR bike. The Gixxer boasts of a chiseled tank and an upswept tail section with integrated grab rails. Another highlight is the twin-holed dual exhaust similar to the one seen on the larger sibling - the GSXR. Adding to the Gixxer's street presence is the 140 section rear tyre.
The Gixxer will not share the engine from the GS150R which is more of a commuter-centric 150cc motorcycle. The Gixxer will be powered by a new four-stroke single cylinder air-cooled 155cc engine that produces 10.4kW, that is, 13.94bhp of power and 14Nm of torque. This motor comes mated to a five-speed manual gearbox, unlike the GS150R which gets a six-speed transmission. The company has equipped this mill with SEP (Suzuki Eco Performance) technology that will help the motorcycle to deliver good performance and decent fuel efficiency as well.
Nikunj Agrawal, managing director VG Automobiles, said, "Suzuki's new product will give a refreshing experience to the consumers. According to the company, Gixxer is a sporty motorcycle with a functional beauty combining edgy styling and performance."
The Suzuki Gixxer is priced at Rs 72,199 (ex-showroom Delhi) in India. The huge price escalation in Nepal is due to the whopping 240 per cent taxes levied. These include customs duty, excise duty, value addition tax and road tax.
