Suzuki unveiled their new 150cc motorcycle, the Gixxer, in January this year along with the Let's scooter. The company has put the new 110cc scooter on sale but is still due to launch the Gixxer. However, our sources have informed us that the manufacturer is likely to launch the motorcycle in August this year.
The Gixxer motorcycle is developed by the engineers who have designed the Suzuki GSX-R series of bikes. The design traits of the Gixxer have been borrowed from these bigger bikes from Suzuki. Though the headlamp of the bike is shaped similar to the headlight of the Pulsar 200NS, it is the dual shape exhaust of the bike that grabs one attention. Its styling is similar to the exhaust of the GSX-R. The tail looks tidy with the body coloured grab-rails. The bike gets a normal reflector taillamp and not LED ones that are seen on most bikes available today.
The Gixxer features telescopic forks at the front, and single-shock suspension with aluminium swing-arm at the rear. The bike gets wide tubeless tyres which the company says will enhance the stability of the bike. On the braking front, the motorcycle is equipped with a front disc brake and a drum brake at the rear. Another highlight is the special Y shape, three-spoke alloys on the bike and the fully digital instrument cluster.
Suzuki has powered the motorcycle with a four-stroke single cylinder air-cooled 155cc engine which is equipped with SEP (Suzuki Eco Performance) technology to deliver both good performance as well as fuel efficiency. The company hasn’t disclosed the power figures yet, but we expect it to be slightly more than the GS150R which churns out 13.8bhp and 13.4Nm of torque. It gets a five-speed manual gearbox, unlike the GS150R.
Suzuki dealerships had started accepting bookings for the Gixxer last month and the motorcycle might arrive at the showrooms next month after its launch. The Gixxer should be priced at around Rs 72,000 to Rs 75,000 and will go up against the Hero Extreme, Yamaha FZ, Honda Trigger and Bajaj Pulsar 150.
