A rear disc brake variant of the Suzuki Gixxer was spotted testing in Delhi, a few months ago. While rumour mills had suggested that this top-end Gixxer variant will be introduced during the festive season this year, Suzuki has now pushed the launch of this new trim to March 2016.
The Suzuki Gixxer is one of the best 150cc commuter motorcycles in the Indian market, and also won our premium commuter motorcycles shootout. While the Gixxer is already a sweet handler, the addition of a rear disc brake should further improve its riding dynamics. Mechanically, this new trim will use the same 155cc single-cylinder engine, which delivers 14bhp and 14Nm of torque through a five-speed transmission.
As of now, the Hero Xtreme Sports and the Honda CB Trigger are the only premium commuter motorcycles to be offered with the option of a rear disc brake. The addition of this feature is expected to bump up the sticker price of the motorcycle by Rs 2,500 to Rs 3,000. We can safely expect this feature to also be carried over for the fully-faired version of the motorcycle – the Gixxer SF.
