Suzuki has announced that the new Gixxer will be launched in the Indian market on September 9. While Suzuki already has a 150cc motorcycle in its portfolio the Gixxer will be positioned well over the GS150R putting it in the league of other high-end 150cc motorcycles like the Hero Xtreme, Yamaha FZ, TVS Apache 160 and the Honda CB Trigger.
The Gixxer will be built around a new light and stiffer frame which should help the motorcycle’s riding characteristics as well as performance. While the front of the Gixxer is equipped with conventional telescopic forks and a disc brake, the rear gets a monoshock. The short and trendy exhaust borrows design cues from bigger Suzuki GSX-R motorcycles.
The Suzuki Gixxer is powered by an air-cooled single-cylinder 155cc engine which produces 14bhp and 14Nm of torque. While the power figures might be similar to those in Suzuki’s other 150cc offering, the GS150R, the Japanese manufacturer claims that the engine comes with Suzuki Eco Performance (SEP) technology which will help the Gixxer deliver good performance, without compromising on fuel efficiency. Unlike the GS150R, which gets a six-speed transmission, the gearbox in the Gixxer is a five-speed unit.
The on-road prices of the Gixxer have already been updated on the company's official website. The Gixxer will be priced at Rs 79,957 (on-road Delhi) and will be available in five paint schemes - metallic triton blue, oort grey metallic, candy antares red, peal mirage white and glass sparkle black. While Suzuki has been showing a positive growth in domestic sales since the past few months, it is mostly due its wide range of scooters. Suzuki doesn’t have a very strong portfolio of motorcycles and with the new Gixxer, it will attempt to capture the attention of a wider range of audience and increase its market share in the Indian market.
