The new Suzuki Gixxer will be officially launched in the Indian market, tomorrow. Prices of the Gixxer have been up on the company’s official website for some time now and prices of the new 150cc premium offering will start at Rs 72,231 (ex-showroom Delhi).
The brochure of the Gixxer was already leaked a few weeks ago and all the details about the motorcycle are already out. Powered by a single-cylinder 155cc engine, the Gixxer is built on a light and stiff frame, which should aid the motorcycle’s riding dynamics and performance. The engine produces 14bhp and 14Nm of torque through a five-speed manual gearbox. Suzuki claims that the engine, despite having similar power figures as the GS150R, delivers better performance and efficiency, thanks to Suzuki Eco Performance (SEP) technology.
The front of the Gixxer comes with conventional telescopic forks and a disc brake while the rear gets a monoshock setup. The short and trendy exhaust borrows design cues from bigger Suzuki GSX-R motorcycles. The Gixxer will be available in five colours- metallic triton blue, oort grey metallic, candy antares red, peal mirage white and glass sparkle black.
While the sale of Suzuki scooters is doing pretty well, the company doesn’t have a very strong motorcycle portfolio in the Indian market. With the Gixxer, the Japanese manufacturer will try to capture a bigger share of the motorcycle market, by targeting the likes of the Hero Xtreme, Yamaha FZ, TVS Apache 160 and the Honda CB Trigger.
