Patent images of a new entry-level sportbike from Suzuki have been leaked by an Australian media house. While the internet is full of speculations, this is the first confirmation that we have received about this supposed quarter-litre sportbike, rumoured to be christened GSX-R250.
The patent images show the motorcycle adorning completely new styling, influenced by the bigger Suzuki GSX-R models. This not only improves its aerodynamics but also gives it a sportier appeal. The fairing of the motorcycle hides its chassis from plain sight, thus divulging very few details about the underpinnings.
However, we expect the GSX-R250 to be based on the same single downtube frame as the Gixxer, with additional bracing to help the bike cope with the extra power. The swingarm and rear sub frame bear a striking resemblance to that of the Gixxer. The engine seems to have a single manifold sprouting out of the head, which hints that the engine will retain the single-cylinder architecture from the Gixxer. The engine breathes out through a single exhaust canister with twin outlets. Upfront, it gets conventional telescopic forks, while the rear wheel rides on a monoshock.
Considering that we were one of the first markets to get the Suzuki Gixxer, we can expect the same to apply for this new quarter-litre bike. We can expect the Suzuki GSX-R250 to make its global debut before the end of this year.
