- Replacement for the GSX-250R
- Powered by parallel-twin engine
- Rival to the Honda CBR250RR, Yamaha YZF-R3 and Kawasaki Ninja 400
Suzuki has filed patent for the replacement of the GSX-250R. Expected to be christened as the GSX-R300, this bike will get sportier underpinnings and cycle parts to make it competitive against the Honda CBR250RR, Yamaha YZF-R3 and the Kawasaki Ninja 400.
The current GSX-250R is based on the Inazuma GW250 platform, which is not as performance-oriented as its rivals. To make its replacement more competitive, Suzuki has gone for a new trellis chassis and sportier cycle parts like an aluminium swingarm and inverted front forks. Also, the 249cc parallel-twin in the GSX-250R produces less than 25 horsepower. To put this into perspective, the R3 produces 41 horsepower. While the GSX-R300 will retain the parallel-twin architecture, it will undergo a major overhaul to bring the power output on par with the competition. As far as styling goes, the GSX-R300 will draw inspiration from the Japanese manufacturer’s halo superbike, the GSX-R1000.
We can expect the GSX-R300 to debut at the 2018 EICMA Show later this year. There will also be a streetfighter variant, although it might be a while before we get to see either of these bikes on Indian roads.
