The Suzuki GSX-S 1000 has been launched in India at Rs 12.25 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Imported into the country as a completely built unit, the GSX-S 1000 is a litre-class naked motorcycle, which has been tweaked to make it a practical and docile all-round streetbike.
The GSX-S 1000 is powered by a 999cc four-cylinder engine, which has been borrowed from the previous GSX-R 1000. This engine has been tuned for a more controlled acceleration and to smoothen out the throttle response, which makes the GSX-S 1000 a very practical everyday motorcycle. The engine is rated at 145bhp of power and comes mated to a six-speed close-ratio transmission.
The GSX-S 1000 comes with a Dual Throttle Valve system and a three-mode traction control system, which can be adjusted according to the rider’s preference. The 4 into 2 into 1 exhaust system gets a midship design to improve the weight distribution and riding dynamics of the motorcycle. It rides on fully adjustable 43mm KYB front forks and a Showa rear monoshock.
Commenting on the introduction of these two new motorcycles, Mr Atul Gupta, executive VP, Suzuki Motorcycle India Private Ltd said, “The GSX-S1000 is a naked roadster with an aggressive look, while the GSX-S1000F is its fully faired sibling. We are launching these models globally and in India at the same time so that Indian motorcycle enthusiasts can lay their hands on the latest, top of the line Suzuki products. These motorcycles cater to the rider who wants a performance street motorcycle. These sport roadsters have expanded our already diverse big motorcycle line-up.”
India is one of the first global markets to get the GSX-S 1000 and its fully-faired sibling, the GSX-S 1000F, and this step shows the Japanese manufacturer’s commitment towards the Indian market. The GSX-S 1000 is available in two paint schemes - candy daring red /glass sparkle black and Suzuki’s trademark metallic triton blue. The GSX-S 1000 rivals other litre-class naked motorcycles like the Kawasaki Z1000, Honda CB1000R and the Yamaha FZ1.
