Suzuki has unveiled the GSX-1000 and GSX-S1000F at the 2014 Intermot taking place in Cologne, Germany. The GSX is the Japanese two-wheeler maker’s litre class competitor and has been on sale since 2001. The motorcycle get a host of mechanical changes but remains the same in terms of appearance.
The GSX-S1000 and the S-1000F have both been fitted with a new aluminium chassis and are powered by a 999cc-inline four motor taken from the 2008 GSX-R1000 as it allows for low to mid-range torque, a characteristic appropriate for city riding. It has furthered this philosophy by creating a four-into-two-into-one exhaust system. Changes to the engine include lighter pistons, iridium spark plugs and a revised cam profile.
They get the aluminium swingarm from the current GSX-1000 and shocks that are adjustable for rebound and damping. The adjustable front forks are upside down units and sit above Brembo brakes in the front and rear. The bikes get a digital instrument cluster, three mode traction control and ABS.
The S1000F is the same mechanically as its naked sibling but with the faring to give it the tourer image. The duo competes with the Kawasaki Z1000/ZX-10R, Honda CB1000/CBR1000RR and the BMW S1000/S1000RR.
