- New platform
- Parallel-twin engine
- Styling inspired by GSX-S1000
Suzuki seems to be working on a new 300cc streetfighter. Rumoured to be called as GSX-S300 in keeping with its bigger stable-mates, this motorcycle will be based on a new chassis rather than using the existing platform of the Inazuma or the GSX250R.
The patent drawings of this motorcycle were leaked in China, where they were filed by Suzuki’s local partner, Haojue. The model is expected to go on sale in China as the Haojue HJ300-A in 2019. For the global markets however, it will be badged as a Suzuki.
Based on a brand new platform
The motorcycle was classified as a 300cc motorcycle in the patent filing, which hints at the capacity. Although there are no technical details, the engine seems to be very similar to the Inazuma engine. However, the chassis looks new, while the box-section swingarm has been ditched in favour of an aluminium swingarm. It even gets sportier inverted front forks and ABS unit.
The GSX250R was globally introduced last year, although it is based on the Inazuma underpinnings. However with the competition catching up, Suzuki seems to have found the need to up the ante with a new platform. We can expect the motorcycle to debut at the 2018 EICMA Show later this year, although it might be a while before we get to see on Indian roads.
