Suzuki has just dropped a bomb by its announcement of assembling the legendary Hayabusa in India. Previously sold as a completely-built-up (CBU) unit, the Hayabusa is the first supersport motorcycle to be ever assembled in India.
The Japanese manufacturer has set up a different assembly line for this motorcycle at their Manesar facility. While the company didn’t reveal the investment figures, we believe that more Suzuki superbikes will be assembled in India to make full use of this assembly line. Suzuki will be importing all the kits for the bike from its factory in Japan. The primary objective to assemble the Hayabusa in India is to bring the price down to Rs 13.57 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) from Rs 16 lakh. A price drop of Rs 2.5 lakh is a lot and is sure to attract more buyers to this iconic motorcycle.
This 195bhp Suzuki competes with the Kawasaki Ninja ZX14R which is priced close to Rs 19 lakh (on-road). With this new development, the Ninja ZX14R doesn’t look like a tempting proposition at all. A price difference of almost Rs 4 lakh will surely take away a lot of customers from the ZX14R.
We welcome this move by Suzuki and we hope to see other manufacturers taking this big step.
