- Suzuki working on no-frills electric scooter
- Likely to get swappable battery feature
- Launch was planned for 2020
Suzuki is working on an electric scooter which was first rumoured to be launched in 2020. But due to COVID-19 pandemic, the launch could have been postponed. But nevertheless, for the first time, we have more details on this upcoming e-scooter.
According to the leaked patent pictures, Suzuki is working on a low-cost no-frills electric scooter for the Indian market. From the pictures, it’s clear that the Japanese brands will use the basic round and square tubing for its frame. The control unit of the scooter is placed below the floorboard. The battery has been placed under the seat, and it looks like this Suzuki will come with removable battery feature. Just below this battery box is the electric motor that is likely to churn out decent power. The wheel design is basic and the traditional forks have been used. One interesting aspect of this scooter is its rear tyre which is larger and also thicker than the front tyre.
From these patent drawings, it’s clear that Suzuki is working on an affordable electric-scooter. Unlike Bajaj and TVS who have launched a plus-lakh e-scooter, Suzuki might launch an e-scooter that will bring volumes due to its attractive price tag. The Japanese firm is also planning to introduce an electric motorcycle but this project is still some years away from its official debut.
