Suzuki launched a new red and black 2016 Commemorative Edition GSX-R1000 paint scheme at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, last weekend. This limited edition livery is the second special edition paint scheme to be announced for the flagship litre-class bike, in as many months.
The 2015 MotoAmerica AMA Superbike race also saw the Team Yoshimura Suzuki race with this new red and black paint scheme on the GSX-R1000 race bikes. The special edition bikes commemorate three decades of the iconic GSX-R moniker, which first saw the day of the light in 1985. This new livery mimics the original GSX-R race bike which was first ridden by Kevin Schwantz in 1986. On the other hand, the blue and white livery unveiled last month is inspired by the original paint scheme of the production-spec 1985 GSX-R750.
The limited edition GSX-R1000 also gets a ‘30 Years of Performance’ badge on its fuel tank, and a special wheel-stripe. Though such special edition liveries do bring a novelty factor to these superbikes, it is high time that Suzuki launches a replacement for the ageing GSX-R1000 K7 superbike.
