Suzuki has issued a recall for the GSX-R1000 in the US. The recall covers 2017 and 2018 models, and is related to an issue which can lead to the chain breaking when the bike is in motion.
Suzuki has recalled over 3,100 GSX-R1000 motorcycles for rectify this issue. The affected motorcycles suffer from a glitch, wherein upshifting when the motorcycle has encountered a false neutral puts a lot of stress on the chain, which can cause it to break. Suzuki will replace the ECM of the affected motorcycles free of charge to control the power delivery in such situations. The dealers will also inspect the chain and sprocket to check for existing damage, and replace these parts wherever necessary.
The Suzuki GSX-R1000 was launched in India in May 2017. We are waiting for word from Suzuki on whether the motorcycles sold in India are affected by this issue.
