- Likely to be powered by a higher displacement motor
- Could get sportier riding geometry
Suzuki has resurrected the legendary name Katana by launching a modern version of the motorcycle. While we are still waiting for the litre-class streetbike to hit the Indian shores, reports suggest that the Japanese bikemaker is working on a more powerful ‘R’ version of the Katana.
The new model is likely to be called the Katana 1135R which suggests that a higher-displacement motor will be employed on this motorcycle. Unlike the GSX-S1000’s 999cc, in-line four motor which powers the standard Katana, the R iteration will be utilising a 1135cc mill. This motor will be capable of producing a higher amount of power as compared to the standard bike which makes 145bhp and 106Nm.
To keep up with its sportier character, Suzuki is also expected to tweak the riding geometry for the 1135R by integrating lower-set clip on handlebars. Moreover, the suspension setup could also undergo an overhaul in order to match with the more ballistic power delivery of the 1135R. All of these alterations will reportedly be complemented by stealthier-looking cosmetics to make the R version stand apart.
The Suzuki Katana has been launched in a few international markets while the deliveries are yet to commence. The company had recently revealed the pricing of the bike in the UK where it will cost £11,399 (Rs 10.142 lakhs). As for the India entry, the Katana is expected to arrive in the country in the coming months.
