The upcoming Suzuki Gixxer motorcycle created a lot of curiosity at its unveiling in Mumbai at the start of this year. It also created a lot of excitement due to its aggressive looks when it was displayed at the 2014 Auto Expo. Now there is news that Suzuki might launch the 155cc motorcycle in the coming month, probably on August 10.
The developers behind the aggressive looks of the bike are the same engineers who have designed the Suzuki GSX-R series of bikes. The well-designed headlamp and meaty yet neatly chiselled fuel tank give the motorcycle a fresh look setting it apart from its sibling the GS150R. Borrowing traits from the bigger bikes from Suzuki, the Gixxer gets features making it modern and appealing. For example, the dual shape exhaust with chrome accents is similar to the exhaust of the GSX-R in terms of styling. While the bike gets body coloured grab-rails, a normal reflector taillamp is seen unlike the LED ones that are seen on most bikes available today. The Gixxer features a fully digital instrument cluster and boasts of the three-spoke alloy wheels.
The Suzuki Gixxer is powered by a four-stroke single cylinder air-cooled 155cc engine which is equipped with SEP (Suzuki Eco Performance) technology. The company says that due to this technology the bike will deliver both good performance as well as decent fuel economy. The company hasn’t disclosed the power figures yet, but we expect it to be slightly more than the GS150R which churns out 13.8bhp and 13.4Nm of torque. However, unlike the GS150R, the Gixxer's motor will come mated to a five-speed manual gearbox.
The Suzuki Gixxer and the Let's scooter were unveiled in January this year. The scooter is now available in the Indian market but the motorcycle is still due for a launch. The Gixxer might reach the dealerships after its launch as the bookings for the motorcycle have already started last month. It will then compete with the Hero Extreme, Yamaha FZ, Honda Trigger and Bajaj Pulsar 150. Suzuki might price the Gixxer at around Rs 72,000 to Rs 75,000 selling it alongside its sibling - the GS150R.
