- Company registered a 2.5% growth
- Access 125 led the sales chart
- Hayabusa registered the highest sales in the company’s superbike portfolio
While most of the two-wheeler manufacturers ended FY2019-20 with negative sales performance, Suzuki Motorcycle India reported positive numbers. The Indian arm of the Japanese two-wheeler brand ended FY2019-20 with a 2.5% improvement over the previous financial year. The company sold 6,85,223 units in FY2019-20 as against 6,68,787 units in FY2018-19.
The 2.5% growth comes at a time when the two-wheeler industry is suffering from lacklustre sales performance. Hero MotoCorp, for example, reported an 18.1% decline in sales during FY2019-20 as compared to 2018-19. Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India and Yamaha Motor India reported 14.7% and 28% fall respectively.
The sales were heavily contributed by the Access 125. The company’s highest-selling product clocked 5,70,898 unit sales in FY2019-20 as against 5,39,123 units during the previous financial year. The Burgman Street, too, registered higher sales (76,485 vs 72,169) during FY2019-20 as against FY2018-19. The new Gixxer 250cc series clocked 4,520 unit sales during the recently concluded financial year. Suzuki Motorcycle India also exports the quarter-litre Gixxer series to Japan. The big bike sales were led by Hayabusa. The 1340cc motorcycle registered 272 unit sales in FY2019-20.
The company has updated the Access 125, Burgman Street, Gixxer, Gixxer SF and the Intruder to comply with the BS6 emission norms. The updated Gixxer 250, Gixxer SF 250 and the V-Strom 650 XT will join the list very soon.
