Suzuki Motorcycle India has its calendar full in terms of expanding its presence in the country. It is planning to add close to 70 dealerships during the last quarter of the current fiscal year.
The company claims that its Let’s scooter has been a successful model and is notching good sales. The top honcho of the company says that the Let's scooter is doing well because they are present in the major urban cities. However, its motorcycles are not doing well because Suzuki is absent in the rural areas, which are turning out to be big markets. In order to increases its overall sales numbers, the company is adding new dealerships.
“Our scooters are selling because we are present in the major urban areas. However, our motorcycle segment is currently weak because we are largely absent in the rural pockets, which are big markets. Hence, our priority is to aggressively expand our dealership base this year," said Atul Gupta, executive vice-president, SMIL.
Over the last few months, Suzuki has seen good response for the Gixxer and the Let’s. It is in the process of developing a fully-faired Gixxer, which is expected to be launched in the next fiscal year.
