Suzuki planning to expand production at Gurgaon

Suzuki Motorcycle India is planning to expand its production capacity at its Gurgaon facility by 25-30 per cent. The Gurgaon unit currently has the production capacity of 5, 00,000 units per annum and will be increased 6, 25,000 in coming few months. However, Suzuki has not revealed the investment it has made for this expansion.

The company, which enjoys a four per cent market share in the Indian two-wheeler industry, has also plans to setup a 5, 00,000 units P.A factory in Rohtak, Haryana. A series of investment clearly shows the company will be going aggressive with its future products and these investments will also help the company increase their export numbers. Suzuki currently exports to Columbia and Nepal and is in the process of tapping new markets like Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

The company has confirmed to launch two new products next fiscal year out of which one will be a motorcycle and the other one will be a scooter. Looking at the current number strategy, it’s very unlikely the company will launch the Inazuma 250 anytime soon.

"We aim to sell around 500,000 units during this fiscal, growing by around 20 per cent over last year. Currently, the production capacity at the Gurgaon plant is around 500,000 two-wheelers working in two shifts. We are planning to expand that by 25-30 per cent," said Atul Gupta, executive vice-president, SMIL.
