Suzuki is considering making India a manufacturing base for its motorcycle which would be exported to Latin America, Africa and the Middle East. The company, clearly, is eying at a major boost for its existing share in the Indian two wheeler market. So much, in fact, that planning is on at Suzuki’s headquarters in Hamamatsu, Japan for developing four new models – two scooters and two motorcycles for India.
In a market dominated by Hero Moto Corp and Honda, Suzuki has just about 2 per cent share with sales 3.6 lakh units in the last fiscal. The figure is not so significant given that the total industry volumes stood at 1.48 crore units during the same period.
Hoping for a brighter future, Suzuki is already hard at work churning out all-new products and strengthening its exiting dealership network. Having introduced the Let’s 110cc scooter and more recently, the Gixxer 150cc premium motorcycle, the company is looking forward to a turnaround in its two wheeler sales. Though only time will tell how it fares in such a fierce market where we have auto giants like Hero, Yamaha and Honda, Suzuki is likely to put up a stronger case for itself this time around with its upcoming new range of models.
