Suzuki Motorcycle India Private Limited (SMIPL) has rolled out its three-millionth two-wheeler. This milestone was achieved at the company’s manufacturing facility in Gurgaon, Haryana.
The three-millionth Suzuki two-wheeler to be manufactured in India was an Access 125. Suzuki commenced its operations in India in February 2006. Although the response was muted in its initial days, the company’s sales numbers have spiralled in the last couple of years. In the previous financial year, Suzuki recorded a sale of 3.5 lakh two-wheelers, which is 12 per cent higher than financial year 2015-16. For the current financial year, Suzuki is targeting over five lakh two-wheeler sales. The Gixxer premium commuter motorcycle range and the Access 125 have been the biggest contributors to this growth.
Suzuki’s Gurgaon factory has a capacity of producing 5.4 lakh two-wheelers a year. With the increase in demand, the company is contemplating ramping up the production capacity at this factory. The company is also looking at increasing its footprint by adding new dealerships across the country.
