Suzuki has revealed that it has no immediate plans to phase out the older Access scooter. While the new Access 125 model is the most expensive Suzuki scooter on sale in the country, the older model will continue as the entry-level 125cc model in the Japanese manufacturer's scooter line-up.
The standard Access in fact, is the top-selling model in Suzuki's Indian portfolio. The Access has been consistently averaging around 13,000 units every month. Though this is nowhere close to other mass market scooters' sales figures, this is a decent number for a 125cc scooter, considering that 125cc scooters aren't as popular as their 110cc counterparts.
While the new Access 125 has been positioned as a premium lifestyle scooter, the conservative styling of the standard model has a different set of target audience. As the new Access 125 is relatively more expensive than the standard Access, continuing to sell the older model will give Suzuki access to a wider customer base. The Suzuki Swish 125 and the standard Access share similar underpinnings, which also helps them save production costs. The standard Access 125 is priced at Rs 50,550 (ex-showroom, Delhi), which makes it a rival to the Mahindra Rodeo.
