Suzuki is going to unveil the 2017 GSX-R150 at the 2016 Indonesia Motorcycle Show on November 2. A rival to the Honda CBR150R and the Yamaha YZF-R15, the Suzuki GSX-R150 is also rumoured to be offered as a streetfighter, christened as GSX-S150.
The Suzuki GSX-R150 is a bigger and more powerful version of the GSX-R125 which was showcased at the 2016 Intermot Show, earlier this month. The GSX-R150 derives its styling cues from the new GSX-R1000 superbike. The aerodynamic fairing and the angular headlamp lend it a sporty look, while the rear set footpegs and low clip on handlebars give it an aggressive riding position. With disc brakes on both ends, the GSX-R150 rides on conventional telescopic front forks and a rear monoshock. Under the skin is a 150cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected engine, expected to deliver around 18 horsepower.
While the GSX-R125 will cater to beginners and A2 licence holders in European markets, the GSX-R150 will be sold only in Asian countries. While there is a good demand for small-capacity sportbikes in India, the market is currently dominated by the Yamaha and KTM. In case the Suzuki GSX-R150 is introduced here, it will have to share the market space with well-established bikes like the Yamaha YZF-R15 and the KTM RC200. Given the current market scenario, the chances of the Suzuki GSX-R150 being launched in India seem very bleak.
