Suzuki has unveiled its turbocharged concept motorcycle named Recursion, at the Tokyo Motor Show. Will this light and powerful motorcycle make it to the production line? Looking at the fast pace of technological advancements the day doesn’t seem to be far.
Suzuki has recently released some more photos of the Recursion without divulging any further details about the machine. However, it is speculated that the motorcycle is equipped with a turbocharged engine developed by the company itself and weighs very less. It has a dry weight of just 174kg due to its aluminium composition and a carbon monocoque rear frame.
The Suzuki Recursion is powered by a water-cooled two-cylinder 588cc long stroke engine and with the help of the intercooled turbocharger, the motorcycle sums up a power output of 100bhp at 8,000 rpm and 100Nm of torque at 4,500 rpm. This is about 30 per cent more than the performance delivered by other bikes in the same segment. What the motorcycle manufacturer also boasts of is that despite the increase in power, the fuel efficiency has increased by 50 per cent courtesy the turbocharged engine.
Turbocharged engines started getting recognition back in the 60s and 70s when they were implemented in cars. After being globally accepted for all these years even motorcycle manufacturers seem to have caught on with the trend. Especially looking at the soaring fuel prices and stringent emission norms these days, motorcycle manufacturers are attempting to power the motorcycles with the same. Will this technology be applied to production motorcycles soon? Only time will tell.
