Suzuki Motorcycle India seems to be working on a new 150cc commuter motorcycle for the Indian market as a new bike was spotted at the Noida expressway without any camouflage.
The image reveals that the name of the new Suzuki bike is Gixer. The styling of the motorcycle, though similar to the Yamaha Vixion or SZR (if the fuel tank design is looked at), has been inspired by the bigger sports bikes from Suzuki. The one thing that catches the eye is the bike’s exhaust with two holes. These traits have been borrowed straight from the Suzuki GSX-R which has similar looking exhausts.
From the angle in the picture, the bikini fairing on the bike looks same as the one on the Pulsar 200 NS with the street-fighter fairing. For a change the front disc brake is on the right side. Consider the GS150R or the newly launched Inazuma for that matter Suzuki motorcycles have the front brake assembly generally on the left side.
The motorcycle features a large drum brake at the rear and a monoshock rear suspension. The clean looking tail, which makes the bike look quite sporty, comes sans the grab rails. The tail lamps seem to be the normal multi-reflector ones and not the swanky LED ones.
Vaibhav Sehgal who posted the pictures on XBhp says he spotted two of the bikes which were doing speeds in excess of 120kmph. This makes us believe that the company has powered the motorcycle with a 150cc engine at least. Suzuki has had a habit of extracting torque from the engines and this one might receive the same treatment. It would only mean that the bike would be fun to drive within the city traffic.
Suzuki has not been doing quite well in the Indian bike market, nevertheless, majority of the business for the manufacturer has been coming from the sale of scooters. What Suzuki needs is a sporty bike which will go up against the other 150cc bikes like the Pulsar 150 or the Yamaha FZ-16. We hope that this new bike does the same and will be launched soon.
