Top 4 things you should know about the 2019 Bajaj Dominar 400

After much speculation and spy images doing the rounds, Bajaj finally revealed the 2019 Dominar 400 in India. The bike features many upgrades as compared to the previous gen model. We list down the top four differences between the old and new Dominar 400.

More powerful engine

The 2019 Dominar 400 is powered by a 373cc, single-cylinder engine similar to the previous model. However, the new bike gets a DOHC (Dual-Overhead Cam). Resultantly, it produces 39.4bhp at 8650rpm; a 4.8bhp increase over the older version. The 2019 Dominar 400's peak torque of 35Nm comes in at 7000rpm; 500rpm earlier than the previous model.

Upgraded suspension

While the previous gen Dominar 400 rode on conventional front forks, Bajaj has upgraded the 2019 version with inverted forks up front. We recently rode the 2019 Dominar 400 and found that this setup has resulted in better handling and added comfort.

Updated instrument cluster

The 2019 Dominar 400’s instrument cluster now displays current fuel economy and average fuel consumption along with a distance to service indicator. The tank-mounted secondary unit shows time, trip info and gear position. While the headlamp and tail lamp on the bike is similar to the earlier model, Bajaj has tweaked the internals slightly.

Cosmetic upgrades

The most noticeable change on the 2019 Dominar 400 is the green paint scheme that sets it apart. It also sports a dual-barrel canister exhaust with a deep exhaust note. The Dominar 400’s tank now features a decal that makes it look more muscular while the lower half of the headlamp assembly is blacked-out for an aggressive appeal.

As compared to the previous gen Dominar 400, the new bike sports premium-looking cast aluminium stalks for the side mirrors. The pillion seat features an embossed ‘D’ logo showing that Bajaj has paid attention to detail on the 2019 Dominar 400. Furthermore, the bike also features bungee cords under the seat that  add to its touring capabilities.
