It is just two days since the Triumph Speed 400 and the Scrambler 400X were unveiled. People across the world have been researching these bikes, and it is just going to keep interest high for the British brand. In India, many people are waiting to get their hands on these bikes as they believe they have finally found an alternative to the Royal Enfield. While we wait for the India pricing of these bikes, let's have a look and discuss the top differences between the Speed 400 and the Scrambler 400X.
Styling
These new Triumph bikes are built around the same chassis and engine, but both bikes serve different purposes. As a result of this, the Speed 400 gets styling that has a lot of urban appeal to it. The design language is clean and doesn't have a lot of ruggedness in it. The Scrambler 400X has a more purposeful look, thanks to the addition of handguards, longer front mudguard, dual-purpose tyres and spilt seats.
Wheels
The Triumph Speed 400 rides on 17-inch alloy wheels on both sides, whereas the Scrambler 400X has a 19-inch front wheel. The rear wheel is the same as the Speed 400. The tyres on both bikes are different too. The Speed 400 has the famous Metzeler Sportec M9 RR tyres, whereas the Scrambler 400X gets Metzeler Karoo Street.
Brake
The Triumph Speed 400 motorcycle is equipped with a 300mm fixed disc with a four-piston calliper at the front, and the rear, there's a 230mm fixed disc with floating callipers. The Scrambler 400X gets a larger 320mm disc at the front and the same 230mm at the rear. Dual-channel ABS is standard on both bikes.
Features
As both bikes cater to different needs, they have some unique features. For the Scrambler 400X, there are radiator and sump guards and a pair of hand guards. The Speed 400 doesn't get these bits.
Dimensions
The Speed 400 has a wheelbase of 1377mm, whereas the Scrambler 400X is a little longer at 1418mm. Even the seat heights are different. The Speed 400 is 790mm, whereas the Scrambler 400X is taller at 835mm. The Scrambler also weighs almost 9kg more than the Speed at 179kg.
