EICMA or the Milan Motor Show is what we would rightly call the Mecca for motorcycling enthusiasts. This is one destination where motorcycle manufacturers gear up to showcase their products in the form of concepts, production versions and sometimes, even through design inspirations. Sure enough, this year, the excitement has rubbed off on the BikeWale team as well. We will also be in the midst of all the excitement come November. Keeping following us for updates.
But before that we thought we'd give you a sneak-peek into what's in store. We give you the top five motorcycles to watch out at the upcoming 2015 EICMA. These motorcycles will come to India soon and so here's fair warning that your savings account needs some monitoring, especially if you plan to possess one of these beauties.
1: KTM 390 based adventure
This bike has been one of the most awaited motorcycles, at least in India. The touring scene in India is growing, however, there isn’t a right product at the right price. The current adventure and touring motorcycles are out of reach for the most of us. The 390 Adventure is going to fill in the void by a very big margin.
While the top honcho has confirmed that they are working on a 390cc adventure motorcycle, it is unlikely that they are going to use the same Duke 390 platform. From what we know, the Austrian-manufacturer is working on a new platform that includes a new chassis, new suspension setup and new tyres, however, the engine might be the same as the Duke 390. But expect this to be tuned to meet the adventure nature of the bike.
2: BMW Concept Stunt G 310
BMW Motorrad shocked everyone a couple of days ago when it unveiled the Concept Stunt G310 in Brazil. While the German manufacturer says that this is just a concept motorcycle, we believe this is a platform for the upcoming 300cc naked motorcycles from the BMW-TVS alliance.
The overall design of this bike looks quite interesting, however, the production version will wear different clothes. As per the alliance, BMW will sell a premium version of this 300cc bike, whereas, TVS will market and sell it as an affordable motorcycle in India. Both the bikes will be made at TVS’ Hosur facility in Tamil Nadu.
3: Ducati Diavel Cruiser
The Diavel is a well-known name in the world of motorcycles. Ducati has positioned the motorcycle as a street naked but plans to introduce it into a new segment – Cruisers. The cruiser version of the Diavel has been spied lot of times over the last few weeks in Europe. This upcoming Diavel cruiser is belt driven and has a little laid back riding position. It is expected to be powered by a new 1198cc engine that churns out 160bhp and 136Nm.
With this new Diavel Cruiser, the Italian manufacturer wants to focus more on the US market where cruisers have a major chunk of market share. Using a successful platform like the Diavel to create another version not only makes sense, but it is financially viable too. After the global launch, the Diavel cruiser will make its way to the Indian market.
4: Ducati Scrambler 400
The Scrambler came as a saviour for Ducati. After it was launched officially, it changed Ducati’s fortune when it came to the overall sales and bank balance. In order to rake in more market share and revenues, Ducati might unveil the 400cc version of the Scrambler. This new Scrambler will be based on the existing 800cc chassis but will be lighter. While there are no official details on this Italian bike yet, rumours suggest that it will be powered by the twin-cylinder mill like its elder sibling, but will be detuned to churn out less power.
The Scrambler 400 is more focussed towards A2 licence holders in Europe and the Japanese market. Just like the 800cc, expect the Scrambler to be made available in various versions.
5: Suzuki GSX Concept
Suzuki released a clay model image of its latest creation – the GSX Concept. The Japanese manufacturer is tight-lipped about this motorcycle but we believe this could be the 2016 version of the legendary GSXR1000. Suzuki has smartly used the CGI and clay model approach to tease us with this new bike. Due to this, it is very difficult to talk about the looks of the bike. However, the headlamp design looks quite similar to the ones on the GSXR1000. And 2016 marks the 30th anniversary of the GSX-R, so Suzuki might have something exciting in store for us.
