The scooter market is a burgeoning one, and niches are becoming the way one can increase numbers without taking on the giants of the segment. Aprilia is the niche manufacturer, and the SR125 is one more of those niches filled. Here are five things you should know about it.
1. It has the same driveline as the SR125. You get the same 125cc engine, the same 9.5bhp, 8.2Nm output and similar fuel efficiency.
2. It has the same features list. You get the same all-analogue instrument cluster as the SR125, and the same size rims and the front disc brake with the two-piston calliper.
3. What is different is cosmetic. The Storm has matt finish paint, with graphics that distinguish it from the rest of the SR range. The alloy wheels are also mildly different.
4. It gets vastly different tyres. The Storm’s tyres almost appear to be balloon tyres, and they have a block-type pattern that make it look like it can take on the rough stuff as well.
5. It fills a niche that doesn’t exist yet. The only other scooter that can claim to handle bad roads is the Honda Cliq, and that isn’t at the premium end of the scooter segment. With the Honda Grazia and the upcoming Suzuki Burgman Street breaking new ground in the scooter market, the SR125 Storm looks to be another first for the Indian market.
