The 2020 edition of India’s largest motor show, Auto Expo, is scheduled to be held from 7 to 12 February. Although various major manufacturers have withdrawn from being a part of it, those participating are all set to introduce some interesting products at the event. Based on previous reports and speculations, we know about a few prospective unveils lined up for the Expo and here are the top five of them.
Suzuki Burgman Street 150
Suzuki is one of the major bike makers participating in the motor show. While there could be multiple BS6-compliant models from the company’s existing portfolio, the anticipated newcomer is the Burgman Street 150. One of the brand’s top officials had confirmed in November last year that they are working on a more premium scooter. This will most likely be a 150cc version of its existing maxi-scooter model, the Burgman Street 125. Besides a larger displacement powerplant, expect the 150cc model to boast of burlier dimensions and more features. The scooter will compete against the 150cc Vespa and Aprilia models.
Aprilia RS 150
As we had reported in November last year, Piaggio is gearing up to unveil a new fully-faired 150cc Aprilia motorcycle at this year’s Auto Expo. This will most likely be based on the Aprilia RS 150 which was showcased at the 2018 edition of the auto show. However, the production version will be a toned down version of the highly premium model which was showcased two years back. With its fully-faired design, modern features and a sporty engine character, the motorcycle will lock horns with Yamaha’s massively popular YZF R15 V3.
Aprilia 160cc family scooter
Besides the 150cc fully-faired motorcycle, Piaggio might also unveil a 160cc family-oriented scooter under the Aprilia brand. Unlike the sporty dynamics of the SR line-up, this model will have a more relaxed character, targeted at the riders of all age groups. In that case, expect it to boast of comfortable ergonomics with a spacious seat and floorboard along with a pliant ride quality. The scooter will be powered by the same 160cc motor which does duty on SR 160, however, with a different state of tune. In terms of pricing, expect it to be on the premium side similar to its existing sporty siblings.
Okinawa Oki100 e-bike
Amidst the plethora of electric two-wheeler startups trying to make their mark in the Indian market, Okinawa is among the few companies which already have a strong foothold. While the brand has a comprehensive line-up of electric scooters in its portfolio, it is all set to unveil an electric motorcycle at the event. It will be based on the Oki100 e-bike prototype which was showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo. The company claims that it is capable of achieving a top speed of 100kmph while delivering a range of as much as 150km! What’s more, the electric motorcycle will also incorporate a host of modern features. Okinawa is expected to price the motorcycle around Rs 1 lakh (on-road).
eMotion Surge
Amongst the host of EV makers to be present at the Auto Expo, eMotion is a Coimbatore-based electric two-wheeler brand which will reportedly take the wraps off its first product at the auto fair. It will be an electric motorcycle christened as the 'Surge'. The most talked-about aspects of the Surge are its profoundly angular design and the presence of a gearbox, something that is uncommon in EVs yet. It will be capable of producing 28Nm of torque at 2,800rpm while being mated to a four-speed gearbox. eMotion claims that it can go from 0-60kmph in under 4 seconds while the rated top speed is 120kmph. Not to mention, it will be equipped with a long list of modern gizmos. For more information about its pricing and availability, we’ll have to wait until its official launch.
