The Auto Expo is by far the biggest automotive show in India. This year's edition saw manufacturers from India and other parts of the globe unveil over 80 new models in the last two days, apart from showcasing a host of models from their existing range. So it would be fair to say that it can be hard to get through all of these in a few hours. So to alleviate your pain, we present to you the seven most intriguing scooters that you must check out at the 2016 Auto Expo.
Aprilia SR 150
Aprilia classifies the SR 150 as a 'sport-scooterbike’, and one look at the scooter is enough to understand why. Targeted at a young audience, Aprilia says that the SR 150 offers superbike-like riding experience with the convenience of an automatic scooter. The sharp cut body lines, sporty riding position, beaky front end and the blacked-out 14-inch alloy wheels accentuate its sporty character. Powering the SR 150 is a 150cc four-stroke single-cylinder engine, which is mated to a V-matic transmission. The SR 150 will be launched in India by August 2016, as a locally manufactured model.
Honda Navi
Honda had done a good job of building up the hype around the Navi, prior to its launch. While we knew that this was going to be something whacky, Honda left everyone spellbound when it finally lifted the wraps off the Navi. Our own desi-version of the Honda MSX125 'Grom', the Navi is a monkey bike which can be specified in three versions – Navi street, Navi adventure and the Navi off-road. With Honda offering a slew of optional extras for the Navi, customisability forms an important aspect of its appeal.
Mahindra GenZe 2.0
Honestly speaking, the Mahindra GenZe 2.0 is actually a moped rather than a scooter. While it does not fit the bill when it comes to being whacky, the GenZe ingenuity and the futuristic design make it worthy of being a part of this list. Essentially a fully electric moped, the GenZe is a part of Mahindra's efforts to create efficient, user-friendly and sustainable mobility solutions. With a simple and minimalistic design, the GenZe comes loaded with technology to extend its range as well as to improve its usability.
Peugeot Metropolis
The Metropolis is a three-wheeled trike, which combines the best of both worlds. It offers you the stability of a four-wheeler while offering the wind in the hair experience of a scooter. It comes packed with creature comforts like a state of the art dashboard computer, smart key, syncro braking, electronic parking brake and ample storage space. The Peugeot Metropolis might not make it to the Indian market any time soon, but that doesn't stop it from making it into this list.
TVS EntorQ 210 concept
The indigenously developed EntorQ incorporates the best of what TVS had to offer, and some more. At the heart of the EntorQ 210 is a 210cc liquid-cooled fuel-injected single-cylinder engine, made out aluminium. It comes kitted with LED lamps, radial tyres, petal discs with ABS and a smartphone compatible electronic dashboard. If the TVS EntorQ 210 is anything to go by, then the future of TVS scooters is definitely very exciting.
Vespa 946 Armani
Are you one of those select few who think the standard Vespa 946 (which should cost you somewhere around Rs 9 lakh) is too common? Well, then the 946 Armani should be perfect for you. Developed jointly by Piaggio and Emporio Armani, the 946 Armani integrates the Italian design house's trademark styling cues.
Yamaha Cygnus Ray ZR
The Cygnus Ray ZR might be based on the same platform and engine as the standard Ray Z, but it is so much more than just a facelift. The front gets a new look thanks to the redesigned front apron and headlamp, while the revised body panels lend it an aggressive character. It also gets a completely restyled instrument cluster and an array of racy paint schemes. The most exciting part though, is that the Ray ZR is a production model which will hit the showrooms in the next couple of months.
