-Was supposed to go on sale around April-May
-Based on the Triumph Trident 660 platform
-Powered by a 660c, inline-triple engine
The Triumph Daytona 660 has begun arriving at dealerships across India. This signals the imminent launch of the 660cc supersport which has been delayed for some time. The bike was supposed to go on sale around April-May but we are well past mid June. Word is that Triumph India will launch the bike around the end of June or early July.
The Daytona 660 is based on the Trident 660 platform. It shares the same frame and engine as the naked bike. The inline-triple makes 95bhp at 11,250rpm and 69Nm at 8,250rpm. What’s notable is that 80 percent of the torque is available at 3,125rpm. That should translate to easy rideability in the city.
Triumph has given the bike a decent set of features as well. The bike gets all-LED lights, TFT/LCD display with Bluetooth connectivity and three ride modes-Rain, Road and Sport.
Under the neatly designed bodywork, you get a tubular steel perimeter frame that is suspended by a 41mm Showa SFF-BP USD fork and a Showa monoshock with preload adjustment. Braking duties are taken care of by twin 310mm discs at the front and a 220mm disc at the rear. The bike rides on 17-inch alloy wheels that are shod with Michelin Power 6 tyres.
The Triumph Daytona 660 should appeal to those who want a good-looking, fully faired motorcycle that is agile and easy to ride. We expect Triumph to price the Daytona 660 between Rs 9 lakh to Rs 9.25 lakh, ex-showroom. In India, the bike will go up against the Kawasaki Ninja 650.
