The Triumph Daytona 660’s launch could be around the corner as bookings have commenced. The token amount has been set to Rs. 25,000 and the bikes too have started arriving at the dealerships. We think the brand could make an official announcement in a week.
Triumph revived the Daytona name with its new 660 platform that already hosts the Trident and the Tiger Sport. However, compared to the previous generation Daytona 675, the new one appears slightly more touring-friendly than an outright supersports motorcycle.
It is powered by the same 660cc inline three-cylinder engine that Triumph uses for its aforementioned bikes. However, the Daytona 660 gets higher power figures – 95bhp at 11,250rpm and 69Nm at 8,250rpm. Moreover, Triumph says a majority of the torque is available as low as 3,125 rpm. This should make riding the Daytona 660 in the city convenient.
Its hardware comprises a 41mm Showa SFF-BP USD fork and a Showa monoshock with preload adjustment. Meanwhile, the brakes comprise twin 310mm discs at the front and a 220mm unit at the rear. These are mounted on 17-inch alloy wheels with Michelin Power 6 tyres. On the feature front, the new Daytona gets all-LED lights, a fully digital dash with Bluetooth connectivity and three ride modes-Rain, Road and Sport.
We expect Triumph to price the Daytona 660 around Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Apart from the Kawasaki Ninja 650, the new Triumph offering may not have any other rival.
