Triumph Motorcycles is aiming to achieve 15 per cent market share in the 500cc and above motorcycle segment in India. In order to achieve this target, the British manufacturer plans to sell 1,500 units this year.
The company has so far sold 835 units in the country in just 10 months of its launch. This is a big number because we remember Kawasaki sold 1,000 units of the Ninja 250R in one year when it entered India and the price of this motorcycle was around Rs 3 lakh. The most affordable motorcycle from the Triumph line-up is the Bonneville, which also contributes to the majority sales.
"We are looking at 15 per cent market share in the 500-cc and above bike category. It comes out to be 1,500 units as the overall market is expected to touch 10,000 units by the end of 2014," said Vimal Sumbly, managing director, Triumph Motorcycles India.
Triumph Motorcycles currently have eight dealerships in India, with the Chandigarh and Kolkata showroom expected to take the count to 10 by mid-October. Showrooms in Jaipur and Indore are expected to be operational by the end of the year. The British manufacturer is also planning to sell its motorcycles in Nepal before March next year, where they expect their sales numbers to touch 125 bikes a year.
