It was only a week ago that Triumph surprised us with its alliance with Bajaj. And now there’s another surprise in store for us. Triumph could launch a new bike on August 24 and the bike in question is the Street Scrambler.
This ultra-cool Scrambler will be positioned between the Street Twin and the Bonneville T100. While it has been based on Triumph’s most affordable motorcycle, the Street Twin, the chassis has been heavily revised to take care of the abuse that comes with off-road riding. The suspension setup is new. The front has 41mm KYB forks and the rear sports KYB twin shocks. Both sides get 119mm of travel for all those big jumps that’s going to come along. The ground clearance has been increased too and the bash plate comes as a standard that offers better frame and engine protection. The Street Scrambler is fitted with Metzeler Tourance tyres for on and off-road use.
The Street Scrambler is powered by 900cc parallel-twin motor. This same motor is seen on the Street Twin. It produces 54bhp at 6000rpm and peak torque of 80Nm at 2850rpm. The company has re-tuned this motor to develop more torque at the low and mid revs. Gear box is six-speed. Features like ride-by-wire, switchable traction control and ABS come as standard. The bike is fitted with a 19-inch front-spoked wheel to make for easy riding over obstacles. There are other elements of an adventure bike like adventure-style front pegs, removable pillion pegs and hangers and an aluminium-rear rack on this motorcycle.
A few dealers across the country have already begun bookings for this new Triumph at Rs 1 lakh. We’re expecting the British manufacturer to price this bike between Rs 7.5 lakhs and Rs 7.8 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi). Its main rival, the Ducati Scrambler Urban is not on sale in India right now, but expect the BS-IV version to be priced very close to the British bike.
