Since its official launch in India six months ago, Triumph Motorcycles India has aggressively increased their foothold in the country by managing to open six showrooms across the country. With the sales doing well, the company is eyeing the Rs 3-5 lakh price bracket segment as it feels there is a big void in the market.
“There is genuinely nothing (in that segment) except for Harley-Davidson’s Rs 400,000 product. So there is a sweet spot. It exists today also and I’m sure in future also it will exist,” said Vimal Sumbly, managing director, Triumph Motorcycles India to Autocarpro.
With this statement, the company is hinting about the possible launch of their new global 250cc platform. Triumph Motorcycles had released a sketch of a 250cc fully-faired motorcycle at the 2013 EICMA, which will turn out to be a quarter litre version of the Daytona 675. This new 250cc platform is expected to power various motorcycles for the company and will be built in India. The British manufacturer is also looking to make India as their export base with manufacturing being done at their Gurgaon facility which currently assembles seven bikes.
There have been various spy shots of these new 250cc prototypes on the Internet. The companyhas confirmed to launch these new quarter litre bikes in 2015. However, they have been tight-lipped about the price of these bikes, but we are expecting it be competitively priced.
