- Positioned above the Street Scrambler in Triumph’s product portfolio
- Powered by Thruxton’s 1200cc parallel-twin motor
- Will be available only in one variant as compared to two in the international market
In succession to the recent launch of the new Speed Twin in India, Triumph Motorcycles is now gearing up for yet another launch of a new motorcycle. For this time, it’s a modern adventure motorcycle with a classic twist, the new Scrambler 1200. The company has updated its official website by listing the upcoming motorcycle confirming it to be launched soon. We have already ridden the motorcycle in Portugal and are highly impressed by its features and capabilities. You can read about it here.
The Scrambler 1200 is an upsized version of the Street Scrambler that is sold in India. It packs a powerful motor borrowed from the Thruxton, is feature-laden and is a properly capable off-roader. It follows the typical Scrambler design featuring a wide handlebar, raised stance, engine bash plate, spoke wheels and the iconic scrambler style exhaust system.
Powering the motorcycle is a 1200cc parallel twin motor borrowed from the Thruxton that is capable of producing 88bhp and 110Nm mated to a six-speed gearbox. The motorcycle comes with five riding modes – Rain, Road, Sport, Rider and Off-Road. Besides that, the motorcycle comes equipped with features like cornering ABS, traction control system, ride-by-wire, torque-assist-clutch, keyless ignition, heated grips, USB charging socket and cruise control.
For cycle parts, the off-road based motorcycle is suspended by 45mm fully adjustable Showa USD forks with 200mm travel up front and a pair of fully adjustable Ohlins with 200mm travel at the back. Braking is done by 320mm dual discs with four-piston Brembo Monoblock M50 calipers for the front and a 255mm single disc with a two-piston Brembo caliper at the rear.
Internationally, the Scrambler 1200 is offered in two variants – XC and XE (higher-spec). For India, the motorcycle will be launched in only one variant, the XC. On the price front, expect Triumph to launch the Scrambler 1200 around the ballpark of Rs 12-13 lakhs ex-showroom.
