- The race bike will be slightly modified to take on the terrain
- Experienced Baja racer Ernie Vigil will be piloting the bike
- The 2018 Baja 1000 will take place from 15 - 18 November
After Triumph recently unveiled its all-new Scrambler 1200 model, we came to know that the versatile machine will be competing in what could be called as one of the trickiest off-road races, Baja 1000. It will be ridden by Ernie Vigil, who is a stunt rider and an experienced Baja racer.
The Baja 1000 is an extreme off-road race which takes place in Mexico’s Baja California Peninsula and sees a variety of machines getting down in the competition including bikes, cars, ATVs, trucks and buggies. The 2018 Baja 1000 will be held from 15 to 18 November.
Among the two models of the Scrambler 1200, XC and XE, the latter will be competing in the championship, albeit with race-oriented modifications. This will include a larger sump guard, engine guard, reworked exhaust system and race-spec lights. The turn indicators and pillion footpegs will be removed.
The Triumph Scrambler 1200 comes equipped with a 17-inch rear and a larger 21-inch front spoked wheel, long travel suspension, single-unit handlebar, full-colour TFT screen and a single seat unit. The higher-spec XE variant gets additional bits such as knuckle guards and heated grips. Powering the bike is a 1200cc parallel-twin engine that churns out 88bhp of power and 110Nm of torque and is mated to a six-speed gearbox.
The Scrambler 1200 will be launched in India in January 2019 and will compete against the Ducati Scrambler 1100 and BMW R nineT Scrambler.
