The Triumph Scrambler 400X is the rough-road-focused variant of the Speed 400, which was recently showcased in India. The scrambler will be a direct rival to the likes of the Royal Enfield Scram 411 and the Yezdi Scrambler. In this article, we compare the specifications and features of the Scrambler 400X with the Scram 411 and tell you which one gets what.
Design and Styling
The Scrambler 400X, in typical Triumph fashion, features an authentic scrambler styling, which is essentially identical to its larger Scrambler 900 and 1200 siblings. The Scram 411, meanwhile, is based on the Royal Enfield Himalayan, and more or less features similar bodywork as the ADV, barring a few changes.
Both motorcycles use a round headlamp, a minimalist fuel tank, and a raked tail section. But, while the Scrambler 400X gets split-style seats, the Scram 411 features a single-piece saddle. Both motorcycles ride on 19/17-inch wheels at the front and back respectively. The former gets alloy wheels while the latter features wire-spoke wheels.
Features
This is one department where the Scrambler 400X triumph’s over the Scram 411 hands down. The Scrambler 400X features LED lighting, a traction control system, switchable dual-channel ABS, a slip and assist clutch, and a semi-digital instrument cluster. The Scram 411 makes do with a halogen headlamp, non-switchable dual-channel ABS, and a digital instrument cluster. However, it gets the Tripper Navigation pod along with Bluetooth connectivity as an option.
Engine Specifications
Coming to their mechanicals, both motorcycles are as different as chalk and cheese. While the Scrambler 400X uses a high-revving, short-stroke motor, the Scram 411 uses a long-stroke, torque-heavy engine.
The 398.15cc, liquid-cooled motor on the Scrambler 400X produces 39.5bhp at 8,000rpm and 37.5Nm at 6,500rpm. It is linked with a six-speed gearbox, while a slipper clutch is standard. Conversely, the Scram 411 is powered by a 411cc, air/oil-cooled motor that pumps out 24.3bhp at 6,500rpm and 32Nm at 4,250rpm. The engine is mated to a five-speed gearbox.
Price
The Royal Enfield Scram 411 is priced between Rs. 2.06 lakh to Rs. 2.12 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). On the other hand, Triumph is yet to launch the Scrambler 400X, which will be launched in India in October 2023. Given the Triumph Speed 400’s aggressive pricing, we expect the Scrambler 400X to be priced at around Rs. 2.50 lakh (ex-showroom).
