Triumph Motorcycles recently announced the prices for the Scrambler 400X. This is the British marquee’s smallest and most affordable motorcycle offering for the Indian market. We recently rode it for the first time and here is our review of it through these images.
On the design front, the Scrambler 400X looks quite similar to the Speed 400 if seen from afar. It gets the same yet beautiful retro styling with the round headlight, golden front forks, and the overall bodywork.
Apart from the visual changes to the wheels, exhaust and the seat, the Scrambler 400X also gets a slightly different chassis compared to its road-going sibling. Then, there are the knuckle guards and the headlight grille, too, for added visual appeal.
Powering the Triumph Scrambler 400X is a 399cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that belts out around 40bhp and 38Nm. It is linked to a six-speed gearbox. The gear ratios have been tweaked to suit the Scrambler’s off-road characteristics. So, the final drive is shorter and the lower gear gets more grunt, too.
On the handling front, the Triumph Scrambler 400X feels light and filtering between vehicles is fun. The bike is quite pliant, and rides well over poor roads, which means you won’t have to think twice before exploring alternate and unknown roads, if need be.
Its ability to be flicked side-to-side is just as good and the addition of a large wheel doesn’t hinder the process. The Scrambler 400X inspires lots of confidence around the corners and lets you ride spiritedly.
Triumph could improve the brakes and the tyres for the Scrambler. The front brake needs more bite and the tyres could do with more grip. The latter would help you make the most of its chassis too.
But what about its features and ride quality? Also, should you purchase the Triumph Scrambler 400X for Rs. 2.63 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi)? Read our first ride review to find the answers.
