Triumph Motorcycles recently joined the small-capacity scrambler barrage in India with the Scrambler 400X. It’s set to ruffle the Yezdi Scrambler’s and Royal Enfield Scram 411’s feathers. In this article, we will compare the 400X against the Yezdi offering on paper.
Design
Both bikes, the Triumph Scrambler 400X and the Yezdi Scrambler, sport a thoroughbred off-road-ready design. They come with round LED headlights, teardrop-shaped fuel tank, wide handlebar, headlight grille, handlebar guards, and a ribbed seat cover. However, the Triumph Scrambler appears to sit a little higher compared to the Yezdi bike. Then, the Yezdi Scrambler gets dual exhaust ports, unlike the Triumph bike’s single-piece unit. Yezdi also offers a secondary fender to keep the mud away while off-roading or riding in slush.
Features
Along with LED illumination, Triumph has offered traction control, ride-by-wire, switchable ABS, USB charging port, and a semi-digital instrument console with the Scrambler 400X. Meanwhile, the Yezdi offering comes with a fully digital unit, ABS, ride modes, and two charging ports – type-A and type-C.
Engine
Powering the smallest Triumph Scrambler is a 399cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled motor that makes 39.5bhp and 37.5Nm. Meanwhile, the Yezdi Scrambler draws power from a 334cc, single-cylinder motor and it develops 28.7bhp and 28.2Nm. As seen here, the Triumph bike not only gets a larger engine but also more power and torque. Both bikes get a six-speed gearbox.
Hardware
The Triumph Scrambler rides on USD front forks and a monoshock with 150mm travel at both ends. Its braking hardware includes disc brakes at both ends and these are mounted on a 19-inch front and 17-inch rear alloy wheel wrapped in dual-purpose tyres. Meanwhile, the Yezdi Scrambler gets USD front forks and dual rear shocks. It also gets spoke wheels instead of alloys and a single disc at both ends.
Price
The asking price for the Triumph Scrambler 400X is Rs. 2.63 lakh and the Yezdi Scrambler is priced at Rs. 2.10 lakh (both ex-showroom, Delhi).
