The small-size scrambler segment is gradually flourishing in India. After the Yezdi Scrambler and the Royal Enfield Scram 411 have been on sale for a while now, the latest contender to join the crusade is the Triumph Scrambler 400 X. It has been pegged at Rs. 2.63 lakh. Although that’s an attractive price, in case you’re open to considering other offerings with a similar price tag, here are your options.
Harley-Davidson X440: Rs. 2.39 – 2.79 lakh
The X440 is Harley-Davidson’s smallest motorcycle ever for India and its mid and top-spec variants are priced closely similar to the Scrambler 400 X. It boasts a cruiser-centric design that is inspired by the XR1200 of the yesteryears and looks cool. Propelling the bike is a torquey 440cc, air/oil-cooled engine that produces 27bhp and 38Nm. Moreover, the handling dynamics and comfort offered by the X440 are also impressive.
TVS Apache RTR 310: Rs. 2.43 – 2.64 lakh
The TVS Apache RTR 310 is a quintessential streetfighter with an athletic and sharp design along with a punchy 312.12cc, liquid-cooled engine. The USP of the bike is the long list of features it comes equipped with. There’s a colour TFT console, Bluetooth connectivity, multiple ride modes, traction control, and a slipper clutch. One can also opt for goodies like a bi-directional quick shifter, TPMS, climate control seat, and a few other rider aids by paying extra.
KTM 250 Adventure: Rs. 2.47 lakh
If you want an adventure touring motorcycle with a potent yet smooth engine, great road presence, decent suspension travel, and comfortable ergonomics, the KTM 250 Adventure would be the ideal pick. It boasts a design and cycle parts that are nearly identical to the bigger 390 Adventure. Powering the bike is a smooth-running 248cc, liquid-cooled motor that makes 29.63bhp and 24Nm and comes mated to a six-speed gearbox.
Royal Enfield Interceptor 650: Rs. 3.03 – 3.31 lakh
By spending around Rs 40,000 – 60,000 over the Scrambler 400 X’s pricing, you can bring home the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650. With its muscular bodywork and a torque-rich, twin-cylinder 650cc engine, the Interceptor 650 gives you a feeling of riding and owning a bigger motorcycle. Although the hardware and features are basic, the refinement and torque spread of the INT’s engine is its biggest highlight.
