- Shares its engine and cycle parts with the Speed 400
- The fairing design resembles the Speed Triple RR
- Likely to sit between the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X
Triumph is working on expanding its 400cc portfolio by introducing the new Thruxton 400 café racer. The motorcycle was recently spied testing in the almost production-ready form which revealed a lot of details about the bike.
While the majority of bodywork looks very similar to the Speed 400, the biggest differentiating element is the presence of an old-school, bubble-type front fairing. Notably, the design of the fairing and headlamp look identical to the front fascia of the bigger Speed Triple RR. Triumph has also employed a clip-on handlebar which is typical of café racers. However, from the fuel tank to the tail section, the motorcycle has retained the same body panels as its roadster sibling. These changes will not only make the ergonomics and design sportier than the Speed 400 but also add visual mass to the Thruxton, something that the Speed lacks big time.
The overall hardware and engine of the Thruxton 400 look identical to the Speed 400. The suspension, wheels, brakes, and overall chassis seem to have been left unchanged. Even the engine looks like the same 398.15cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled unit that produces 39.5bhp and 37.5Nm. Now, it remains to be seen whether Triumph has made any changes to the engine to tweak the way the power is delivered on the Thruxton 400.
As of now, Triumph has two 400cc motorcycles in its portfolio – Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X that are priced at Rs. 2.33 lakh and Rs. 2.63 lakh, respectively (both prices are ex-showroom). The upcoming Thruxton 400 is expected to sit between these two in terms of pricing.
