- Both bikes are Rs. 1,500 more expensive now
- First price hike since their launch in India
- No mechanical changes
Triumph India has increased the prices of its entry-level motorcycles, the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X, in India. Both bikes now cost roughly Rs. 1,500 more than before. While the Speed 400 is pegged at Rs. 2,34,497, the Scrambler 400 X sets you back by Rs. 2,64,496 (both prices are ex-showroom). Notably, this is the first price hike these bikes have received since their India launch last year, barring the Speed 400’s limited-period introductory price tag which stood at Rs. 2.23 lakh.
While these bikes are based on the same platform, they differ in terms of design and intended purpose. The Speed 400 is purely a road-biased, modern-classic roadster whereas the Scrambler, as the name suggests, is meant to take on road as well as dirt. Powering the bike is a common 398.15cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that produces 39.5bhp and 37.5Nm of peak torque. Transmission duties are handled by a six-speed gearbox with an assist and slipper clutch.
The main difference between the Speed and Scrambler lies in their cycle parts. The former rides on 17-inch alloy wheels with road-focused tyres while the latter boasts a larger 19-inch alloy wheel up front along with block-pattern tyres. The Scrambler also gets a bigger 320mm front disc brake, as opposed to the Speed’s 300mm unit. While dual-channel ABS is available in both bikes, it can be turned off for the rear wheel on the Scrambler. The rest of the features remain identical and the list includes full-LED lighting, a semi-digital console, Bluetooth connectivity, traction control, and a USB charger.
