The Triumph Speed 400’s competitive price tag of Rs 2.33 lakh makes it an absolute no-brainer. However, the motorcycle exudes a certain persona that may not be to everyone’s liking. So, if you have the budget to buy the Speed 400 but are also ready to consider other motorcycles at a similar price, here are your top four options.
Harley-Davidson X400: Starts from Rs 2.29 lakh
The Harley-Davidson X440 is one of the closest rivals to the Triumph Speed 400 but the kind of riding experience it delivers is slightly different. The former boasts an undersquare, long-stroke engine that feels more like a thumper and delivers strong low and mid-range torque. It’s also more old-school in terms of styling with visual inspiration taken from the now-discontinued Harley XR1200. On the contrary, the list of features is more contemporary with things like Bluetooth connectivity and a slipper clutch.
KTM 250 Duke: Rs 2.38 lakh
The KTM 250 Duke is the sportiest offering in this list. While the design is typical KTM with sharp and aggressive lines, the engine performance is punchy enough to match its aesthetics. Powering the bike is a 248cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that pumps out 29.6bhp and 24Nm and comes mated to a six-speed gearbox. This is complemented by premium hardware like WP Apex suspension, ByBre brakes, and an aluminium swingarm.
Honda CB300F: Starts at Rs 2.26 lakh
Similar to the KTM 250 Duke, the Honda CB300F exudes a quintessential streetfighter vibe with athletic bodywork. However, the engine of the CB isn’t as high-strung and boasts a more manageable and calmer engine character. Powering the bike is a fairly refined 293.5cc, oil-cooled engine that makes 24.1bhp and 25.6Nm. However, on the hardware and feature front, it is just about average and doesn’t offer anything extraordinary.
Bajaj Dominar 400: Rs 2.30 lakh
If you’re a mile-muncher kind, the Bajaj Dominar 400 is worth considering and taking a test ride. It’s a small-size power cruiser with muscular styling and comfortable ergonomics. It is powered by a 373.3cc, liquid-cooled engine that produces 39.42bhp and 35Nm and gets a six-speed gearbox. While the hardware and features are also decent, one of its niggles is the kerb weight of 193kg which makes it slightly cumbersome to manage at slow speeds.
