Triumph Motorcycles India has updated its product portfolio with the launch of the new Speed Triple 1200 RS. The flagship roadster from the British marque made its global debut on 26 January, 2021 before it was launched in our market on 28 January, 2021. Here we explain the new Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS in detail.
Design
In terms of design, the latest iteration of the Speed Triple roadster features an aggressive look than its predecessor. The front fascia, for example, gets a twin-pod headlight setup with eye-brow style DRLs. The motorcycle benefits from full-LED lighting. The fuel tank and the tail section boast a sleeker design that give a compact look to the roadster. The new model is 10kg lighter than the discontinued version.
Another noticeable upgrade is the revised exhaust setup. Unlike its predecessor that used under-seat exhaust outlets, the new Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS gets a single-sided unit. It also gets new wheels. Triumph Motorcycles will offer the new Speed Triple 1200 RS in two colour options – Sapphire Black and Matte Silver Ice.
Engine
As the name suggests, the new Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS gets a bigger engine than its predecessor, the Speed Triple 1050. The new motorcycle uses a 1,160cc, inline three-cylinder motor instead of the 1,050cc motor on the old model. The new engine produces 30bhp more than the previous model. The peak power output is rated at 178bhp while the maximum torque is 125Nm. The six-speed gearbox benefits from a slip and assist clutch function as well as a bi-directional quickshifter as standard.
Hardware
The new Speed Triple 1200 RS is built around a new lightweight chassis. The RS badge brings fully-adjustable Ohlins 43mm NIX30 upside-down forks at the front and an Ohlins TTX36 mono-shock at the rear to perform the suspension tasks. The braking system comes with the top-spec Brembo Stylema callipers for the front. Moreover, the alloy wheels are shod in Metzeler Ractec RR tyres.
Electronics
The comprehensive electronic rider aids include cornering ABS, switchable cornering traction control, five riding modes (Rain, Road, Sport, Track, and a Rider Configurable), Cruise control, and wheelie control. The new model also benefits from a Bluetooth-enabled five-inch TFT screen, GoPro connectivity feature, and a full keyless system.
Price
Triumph Motorcycles India has launched the new Speed Triple 1200 RS at Rs 16.95 lakh (ex-showroom).
