Triumph Motorcycles has listed the BS6-compliant Speed Twin on its India website. The company will soon introduce the latest iteration of the motorcycle in our market. While we await a launch announcement, here we tell you what to expect from the upcoming Triumph Speed Twin BS6.
Engine
The latest iteration of the Triumph Speed Twin gets mechanical upgrades to comply with the newest emission norms. The motorcycle retains the 1,200cc, parallel-twin, liquid-cooled layout although it now makes more power than before. Linked to a six-speed gearbox, the updated motor makes 98.6bhp at 7,250rpm as against 96bhp on the old motorcycle. The peak torque output of 112Nm is similar to the old model although it now comes at 4,250rpm as against 4,950rpm on the previous model. The claimed fuel economy stands at 5.1-litre/100km or 19.60kmpl.
Hardware
Apart from the mechanical upgrades, the new model also benefits from an updated suspension setup. The Speed Twin BS6 gets 43mm Marzocchi upside-down front forks instead of conventional telescopic units on the old model. The suspension tasks at the back are handled by preload-adjustable twin-sided springs. The anchoring tasks are handled by twin 320mm discs with Brembo M50 four-piston callipers at the front and a 220mm single rotor with a Nissin two-piston calliper.
Design
While the mechanical specifications, suspension setup, and the braking hardware have received major updates, the design remains similar to its predecessor. The limited styling changes on the new model include anodised headlight mounts, new mudguard mounts, 12-spoke alloy wheels, and new graphics. The exhaust gets a revised, dual-tone finish and the units on the new model use black tips. The Speed Twin BS6 will be available in three colours – Red Hopper, Matte Storm Grey, and Jet Black.
Features
The feature list on the BS6 model include full-LED lighting, a semi-digital instrument cluster, a USB power socket, and an engine immobiliser as standard. The company will offer optional accessories such as tyre pressure monitoring system, heated grips, adjustable levers, and more for the motorcycle. The electronic rider aids include three riding modes (Rain, Road, and Sport), switchable traction control system, and ABS.
Expected Price
The new model should carry a premium over the discontinued version, although Triumph may announce a competitive introductory price tag for the Speed Twin BS6. The BS4 model, for reference, was sold at Rs 9.46 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
