- To make global debut on 4 December 2018.
- Powered by 1200cc, parallel-twin engine.
- Likely to arrive in India by early 2019.
We had expected Triumph Motorcycles to showcase the Speed Twin at the 2018 EICMA. With that not happening, Triumph has calmed enthusiasts with a teaser video revealing that the bike will debut on 4 December 2018.
Apart from the unveil date, the teaser video also gives us a glimpse of the bike’s side panels which sports twin mesh grills and the ‘Speed Twin’ logo. Now, this might not be a lot to drool over but thanks to the internet, we do know what the entire bike looks like. The Speed Twin borrows most of its modern-classic styling from its 900cc sibling, the Street Twin. The bike is likely to share the underpinnings and 1200cc, parallel-twin engine from the Thruxton. This unit produces 96bhp and 112Nm of torque and is mated to a six-speed gearbox.
Going by the leaked images, the Speed Twin will be offered in two variants, appearing to differentiate between each other with braking hardware and cosmetic add-ons. The bike sports a retro-looking twin pod instrument cluster with small digital displays on both pods. We can expect the Speed Twin to come equipped with ABS, traction control, ride-by-wire throttle and a slip-assist clutch as standard, similar to the Thruxton.
The Triumph Speed Twin is definitely coming to India sometime next year. We expect it to retail somewhere between Rs 10.5-11.5 lakhs.
